Ella is experienced acting and advising on a broad range of matters, including high profile and complex civil fraud and commercial litigation, regulatory litigation and inquiries. Prior to joining PCB Byrne, Ella worked at New Zealand's largest litigation firm, as both a civil litigator and criminal prosecutor for the Office of the Crown Solicitor in Auckland, New Zealand. She also has inquiries experience as in-house legal counsel for a New Zealand Royal Commission of Inquiry focusing on serious abuse of children, young people and disabled adults in state care.

  • For the plaintiff, Fujifilm New Zealand, in a high-profile litigation against former directors and auditor involving allegations of inappropriate accounting irregularities amounting to over $350 million in loss
  • For the New Zealand Commerce Commission in bringing regulatory prosecutions against companies involved in false and misleading advertising
  • For a large property owning company in a joint venture dispute against a developer

Background

Ella was admitted to the bar in New Zealand in 2018 and is enrolled as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand. Ella holds a Bachelor of Laws, with Honours, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Auckland. She also holds an LLM from the University of California, Berkeley, for which she was awarded Berkeley Law School's Social Justice Scholarship. Ella has also been the Co-Editor in Chief for two editions of the New Zealand Women's Law Journal. Ella joined PCB Byrne in 2023.
